Breakfast is the most important meal of an athlete’s day, so picking the right ingredientsto perform and recover like a champ is essential. 

What if I prefer starting my day with something sweet?No problem! 

As always, we want you healthy and happy and have prepared the perfect recipe for ahealthy and quick-to-prepare breakfast that will also satisfy your sweet tooth

Follow these 6 easy steps whether you’re hoping to achieve new personal records, want more energy to seize the day or are looking to reach the ideal weight.

 

STEP 1: OATMEAL

Today, we know that not all cereals are equal. Oatmeal fills us with plenty of carbohydrates to boost energy and alertness, helps lower cholesterol and prevents certain cancers and cardiovascular diseases.

STEP 2: GET YOUR 5 A DAY

By now you should have grabbed a large bowl to pour some oatmeal: Time to add sliced fruits on top. Any fruit really, as long as they’re seasonal. Bananas for example, are useful for muscle recovery and cramp reduction, while apricots are low-fat and high-carbohydrate, and provide a good amount of vitamin A, fiber and potassium.

STEP 3: GO NUTS 

Add a handful of (sliced) almonds as they are particularly suitable for athletes to provide the nutrients they need and boost their sporting performance.

STEP 4: SWEETEN YOUR DAY 

You said you like sweet food and we listened. If the sweetness brought by the fruits earlier is not enough, feel free to add dark chocolate flakes. Source of magnesium and antioxidants, they have a beneficial effect on cramps, help to fight against free radicals and are a great anti-stress. Be reasonable though! ;)

STEP 5: HEALTHY MILK OPTIONS

When selecting a milk or plant-based milk, ask yourself what nutrients are most important to you, along with taste, of course. If you need to gain weight, go with whole cow's milk, but if you're trying to cut calories, you can opt for a plant-based option, like almond milk.

STEP 6: HYDRATE
